A study of bosses found people would rather work for a bad boss than an inconsistent one. At least with a bad boss, you know what you're getting.

Let me tell you the worst kind of boss you could have. They did a study once. They had underlings rank their bosses. They put the bosses into three categories. Bosses that were good, bosses that were bad, bosses that were inconsistent — bosses that they couldn't put in the category of good or bad.
Which type of those three bosses did most people want to work for? The good boss. Obviously, that was the first choice. What was number two? Was it the bad boss? Was it the inconsistent boss? Number two was the bad boss. I'd rather work for a bad boss because at least I know what I'm going to get.
Third, last place — the inconsistent boss. Why? Because you never knew what you were going to get. Without predictability, your life kind of stunk.
Moral of the story: don't be that third kind of parent. Be consistent.
Let your kids know when you're there, what the rules are, how you are going to treat them. No matter what kind of day you're having, be consistent with the kids as best you can.
