Can I look at a billionaire and feel really sorry for him? Yes, I can.

Steve Jobs was dying. Pancreatic cancer. He hired Walter Isaacson to write his biography. Walter Isaacson trailed him around for months and months, every minute of every day.

At one point, they had some downtime waiting for something to happen. Walter Isaacson said to Steve Jobs, let me ask you a question. I've been following you for a while now. It's very clear to me you are intensely private. It's very clear to me you hate giving interviews. Why are you giving me access? Why are you letting me in on everything?

And Steve Jobs said the saddest thing I've ever heard in my life.

Steve Jobs said to Walter Isaacson: I'm doing it for my children. I want them to get to know me.

Isn't that sad? All Steve Jobs needed to do was spend time with his kids. Let them get to know him. But no — he'd rather have somebody who's a great writer write a book about him than spend time with his kids.

Had a reaction to this? Let's talk.
