1996, a movie comes out. I'm going to spoil it if you haven't seen it. Name of the movie is Phenomenon starring John Travolta. He's in love with Kyra Sedgwick. Kyra doesn't want to give him the time of day.
Kyra builds these ugly chairs and she tries to sell them. He, unbeknownst to her, was buying her chairs. They finally go out. She agrees to go out with him and they end up having a relationship. And she goes over to his house and she looks in his garage and she sees dozens of her chairs that he's been buying. She gets furious at him. How could you buy those chairs? That's so dishonest. He goes, why am I being dishonest? I want to make you happy.
Do you buy your partner's chairs? Do you do something just for the sheer act of giving them pleasure?
It's okay to do that. It's necessary to do that. You do that, you stay out of my couples office.
