You want to give your kids a nice gift? Show affection to your spouse.
Let them grow up seeing two parents who have no problems hugging each other, kissing each other, showing each other affection.
I had a client once. I love this story. He's going with his best friend to camp, and the deal was his best friend's parents were going to take the two of them to camp, and then his parents were going to pick him up and bring him back.
They're going to camp. They're all excited. They're in the back seat. Mom and dad are in the front seat. Bench front seat. You guys know what a bench seat is? It's not two individual seats. It's one long seat. These kids in the back, they're messing around. All of a sudden, this kid's looking forward out of the windshield and he sees the mother slide over to the father. And this patient of mine doesn't know what the hell's happening. He thinks it's about to get violent. His friend's talking to him. He's not listening.
The mother slides over to the father. The father's driving. The mother reaches up and strokes the dad's hair. And this kid's never seen that in his life. He's watching this. Then he watches the dad put his arm around his wife. He's watching the wife lean into the dad. This kid has never seen this before. He thought a fight was about to break out. He was amazed that he saw two parents laughing and touching and being warm and fuzzy with each other.
I highly recommend that.
